Outreach

Answering God’s call in our community.

Service to our Capitol Hill community is a valued part of the life of our congregation. In addition to encouraging members to engage in their own acts of service and ministry, we regularly participate in organized ministries led by the Christ Church Outreach Committee. Our current partners and volunteer needs can be found below; if you have questions, please don’t hesitate to reach out so we can help you get plugged in!

Lenten Campaign

From now through Easter Sunday, all donations to the Outreach fund will go directly to our partner, Migrant Solidarity Mutual Aid. MSMA was formed to live out the Christian virtue of welcoming the stranger.

In addition to supporting them financially, this campaign will also collect new or gently used sneakers for all ages (men, women and children; sneakers only please!)

Outside of this specific campaign, our community covers the cost of a hot meal and provides volunteer support at migrant respite nights each month. All are welcome to join us there; no experience or Spanish skills necessary!

Our full 2026 Outreach calendar can be found here. We intend to highlight one of our four partners during each season of the year (as below.) You can find out more about the featured partner, and any other volunteer opportunities, by chatting with the Outreach committee member stationed at the welcome table on the first Sunday of the month!

MORE ABOUT OUR PARTNERS

Bishop Walker School

The Bishop John T. Walker School for Boys was organized as the Episcopal Diocese of Washington’s response to the serious educational challenges facing African American boys in low-income communities in the DC area. The school, named in honor of the first African American bishop of the diocese, currently serves 85 students in grades K-5. The school is supported by the Episcopal Diocese of Washington, Episcopal parishes, and individual donations. Our community currently supports the school around the holidays with a book drive for their library and a fundraiser at our St. Nick’s dinner.

Calvary Women’s Services

Calvary Women’s Services are a full-service network designed to raise women out of homelessness. Sign up above to participate in our monthly dinner preparation to serve 20+ women living in Calvary’s transitional housing. Additional support or donations can be provided via their shop.

Everyone Home DC

Everyone Home DC began as Capitol Hill Group Ministry (CHGM), a grassroots response by several Capitol Hill churches – including Christ Church – during the turbulence of the 1960’s to collectively address the challenges faced by their congregants and communities. Today the organization serves thousands of vulnerable individuals and families in Capitol Hill and across the District. EHDC is our summer partner, and we collect water, stuff hygiene kits, and raise funds for their back-to-school drive.

Migrant Solidarity Mutual Aid Network

MSMA is a network of support serving migrants being bussed into our community. As part of this network, Christ Church has begun hosting a respite night at Capitol Hill Presbyterian where we fund and serve meals, sort clothing donations, and generally try to provide a warm welcome. All ages welcome to participate, and Spanish skills are helpful though not at all required. Sign up online.

Lunch-making Ministry

In addition to our external partners, our community gathers on the first Sunday of every month to prepare and distribute 100 bagged lunches for our unhoused neighbors. This ministry has been thriving since the 1990s, and is still going strong, so sign up to purchase supplies, oversee preparation, or help deliver!
